UNBOXING: September ‘Outlaws’ Bookboxclub box

Hello lovelies! If you’ve read my other unboxing posts, you will have noticed that this box will be my last as a rep for Bookboxclub. Something that makes me sad – but also happy to have been part of this for three months. So I sincerely hope you liked all my unboxings so far and I’m excited to show you the contest of September’s special one-year anniversary box. Yes, you read it right: Bookboxclub celebrated its birthday last month! 🎉 As a big fan, I hope there’s many more bookish years to come. They also made a special announcement, which I’ll talk about the end of the post. Read on, read on.

OH by the way, my lovely friend Anne designed me some new autumnal illustrations to use between my photos. Don’t you think this leaf-banner looks cute AF?

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen the photos I use here already, but it’s much harder on the ‘gram to actually explain what’s going on in the photo – luckily I can tell you here. On y va.

The first cutie I found in the box was this Robin Hood magnetic bookmark by MarkedByHephaestus.  I actually LOVE the tale of Robin Hood, especially when it’s the movie with Russell Crowe (go watch it). It also reminded me that I have to continue the Scarlet series by A.C. Gaughen after absolutely loving the first book. It’s sort of a retelling of the Robin Hood tale but in which Will Scarlet is a girl. Sigh… I love Robin Hood.

Next are these beautifully illustrated postcards of everyone’s favourite little outlaws. Is any of you also still wishing and hoping that one day, J.K. Rowling will give us a Marauder book (or like… 7 books)?! We certainly did not get enough Sirius and James in the HP series and fanfiction sometimes just doesn’t cut it. PLEASE J.K.? These beauties are designed by The Imaginative Illustrator.

Then these cosy socks caught my eye – they’re exclusively designed by the girls of Bookboxclub to celebrate the featured book (which you’ll see at the bottom of the post). They’re based on the main character of the book. First things I did when I saw them was PUT THEM ON, MAKE SOME TEA and SNUGGLE UP. Because honestly that’s all one can really do when receiving socks, amirite? And as Libby and Kate stated on the items list, even outlaws need warm feet!

Onto a lipbalm based on one of my favourite characters from my FAVOURITE BOOK EVER. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a bunch of outlaws more than I love my babies in Six of Crows – Inej being the sweetest of the bunch. Heck yes I want to smear my lips with Inej-inspired caramel and cinnamon lipbalm and hopefully become as badass and knife-wieldingly amazing as her! Get your own from Oriandle.

Just like every month, there were some bookish goodies included in the box as well. My favourite were these John Green inspired pencils to celebrate his new book Turtles All the Way Down. Have you gotten your hands on a copy yet? I’m going to have to do with only the pencils for now as I’m not planning on buying it anytime soon. The Fault in Our Stars is actually the only John Green-novel I’ve read!

Now it’s time to take a look at the books that came in the box! Because it was their anniversary month, the girls were kind enough to send not one but TWO books in the boxes. Alongside the featured novel, they send everyone a book proof. I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the book I received…

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera!!! A book I’ve been meaning to buy and read ever since I first saw it…. aaaahhh! It’s as if they’re mind-readers over there at the Bookboxclub office 😍❤. Thank you so much for this. Hopefully I can find the time soon to devour this (and probably get my heart broken because that’s what Adam Silvera books tend to do apparently.

And there it is: the featured book of the month! It’s A Jigsaw of Fire and Stars by Yaba Badoe. I’ve actually already read the book and can’t wait to discuss it in the book club with the author. Read the Goodreads description of the book below:

Fourteen-year-old Sante isn’t sure where she comes from, but she has a recurring dream of escaping a shipwreck in a sea chest as a baby with her lifelong companion, golden eagle Priss. In the chest was an African bamboo flute, a drum and a dagger inlaid with diamonds. Sante was found and raised by Mama Rose, leader of a nomadic group of misfits and gypsies including knife-thrower Cat and snake-charmer Cobra. They live off-grid and perform circus tricks for money.  During a performance in Cadiz, Sante recognises two men from her dream.  After Cat rescues a beautiful red-haired girl called Scarlett from a gang, Mama Rose’s band are forced to flee the city. But Sante and Cobra stay behind, determined to find out more about her family and where she came from.

Excited yet? Good. The November theme was just announced and it’s HAUNTED MINDS – the featured book is (according to Bookboxclub) the perfect spooky autumnal read with a shock ending that begs discussing in the end-of-the-month book club. You can still use my discount code “BOOKSFEMME5” to save some money!

Now for that special announcement I promised to tell you about. Bookboxclub launched a new subscription option for people that want to experience the pleasure of receiving a book every month and discussing it with others, but don’t need the goodies that come with a regular box. It’s called Purely Books and I’m excited to tell you that I’m staying with Bookboxclub a little longer as a rep for Purely Books! That also means you can use the discount code above on your own 3 month Purely Books subscription. Yay 🙌💕.
