Maybe you’re following me on Instagram. Maybe you’re not. If you are, then you might have seen that I was chosen to be a rep for Bookboxclub for the months of July, August & September. AND I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS, because their concept and boxes are amazing. So a while ago I received the July ‘SPELLS & REMEDIES’ box and that box is exactly what I’m going to unbox for you today. Safe to say there are massive spoilers for the box but I guess you should have figured by now. Hah. On y va!
So the plan is to show you everything that was in the box step by step, finishing with the ~big reveal~ a.k.a. the featured book (and a discount code you can use). If you don’t feel like reading all that you can just scroll to the last picture too because who wouldn’t?! Be sure to check out all featured shops, as these people all work very hard to create gorgeous bookish products for us bookworms!
First up is Hocus Focus tea by The Bluebird Tea Company. As a huge lover of everything British and a consumer of 4 cups of tea a day, I was very pleased to find this ginkgo, ginger and ginseng flavoured bag o’ tea in the box! According to the packaging, it helps with blasting away your brain fog… DO I NEED THIS? YES. Can’t wait to try.
Next, Libby and Kate (who are the girls behind bookboxclub) are dropping hints about their subscribers not smelling good enough. Just kidding, I bet they’re just hoping for us to attract some hot Raven Boys with this Cabeswater Shea butter soap by JustFribble. And boy I cannot wait to have Gansey lying on my doorstep asking to smell me (that only sounds mildly wrong, I know). Bae.
Then I found this ridiculously cute Spells & Remedies Bunting hiding in the box. First thing I did was put it on my bookshelf, second thing I did was fall in love. My bookshelf has always been a rather undecorated one, but after this bunting, it’s existence changed for the better. It actually screams at me to look at it now! So gorgeous! The bunting is from The Literary Omnistore.
On this photo there’s not one but TWO items that were in the box. One: a super duper cute Unashamedly Bookish Mirror by MoonKestrel, which comes in super handy whenever you’re on the road and need a quick looky in the mirror to see if your face is still A+ (who am I kidding, your face is always A+). Lying next to it is the Wonders Bookmark by Holly Grace Illustration. Sadly, the photo’s quality isn’t very high, but the quote says ‘you shall see wonders’ by Shakespeare.
Before ~le big reveal~ I have to show you these two samplers and the bookmark that were also included in the box! One sampler is for Holly Bourne’s contemporary It Only Happens in the Movies and the other for the twisting thriller S.T.A.G.S. by M.A. Bennett. The bookmark shows a quote from After The Fire by Will Hill, which is actually inspired by a real life American cult (sounds creepy enough for ya?).
Here we are, friends. At the end of this post, only one last item to show you…. are you curious yet? Have you just scrolled down to see this? Who knows. I won’t keep you waiting any longer now, it’s time to show you the book that was featured in July’s bookboxclub:
It’s THE DISAPPEARANCES by Emily Bain Murphy! Yaaaaaaaaas! Look at that absolutely stunning cover. This would totally be a cover buy for me, but the good thing is: the blurb also sounds ah-mah-zing. I’ve shortened it a bit for you.
After Aila’s mum dies, she and her younger brother Miles are sent to the mysterious town of Sterling, where their mother grew up. In Sterling, ordinary things suddenly disappear every seven years. The town has always thought Aila’s mum responsible for this… and Aila must bear the brunt of the blame. Aila must unravel what’s really happening, but that’s not as easy as it might seem.
So now it’s not only a cover buy but also a blurb buy. What else do you need? Oh, I know. A book club to discuss it with once you’ve finished the book. A secret book club that does not only includes bookboxclub members, but also THE AUTHOR OF THE FRIGGIN’ BOOK. Because do you see that scroll lying there, next to the book? That’s a secret book club invite, for members of the bookboxclub only! And that’s what I think makes this box so special: you get to fangirl over the book and ask the author any questions you might have.
If that’s not enough reason to convince you, I don’t know what is. Here’s a discount code that can save you a bit of money when purchasing your own:
September boxes are now on sale, and the theme is OUTLAWS (click here to check it out). Will I see you in the secret book club?
