It’s time for something other than book talk this time. You might know that I’m also a TV show enthousiast, or you might not have known. Now you do. There’s a list on my phone where I write down every show I’ve watched so that I don’t forget. I will now use this knowledge to provide you with five of my favourite TV shows that I consider vastly underrated. All of them have a healthy 4 seasons (okay not all) with 40 min episodes. So get ready, take some popcorn and be prepared to all of these to your watchlist!
#5 Vikings – (2013-) – 5 seasons
This show is first and foremost so extremely aesthetically pleasing. Doesn’t that poster already say it all? It’s beautiful. The intro theme is gorgeous and so is Travis Fimmel. Wait what? Travis Fimmel plays the main character in this show, Ragnar Lothbrok: a Viking with huge ambitions and big dreams. He takes us on a journey through his lands and beyond. But even a Viking who seems humble in the beginning can be corrupted by power and lust. This show also includes fighting Viking ladies which is 1) fucking awesome and 2) historically accurate! And what’s better than historically accurate Viking TV shows? Right, nothing.
#4 Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – (2013-) – 4 seasons
Okay so if you’re Marvel trash like me, you should not miss out on this amazing show. Remember Agent Phil Coulson, the guy that died in the first Avengers movie? He didn’t die after all! He got his own show instead!! And it’s great. This show follows Phil and the missions of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. The team he assembles around him to help fight crime and whatnot is legit the best. My absolute favourites are Jemma and Fitz, the scientists. You’ll fall in love with these two just as much as I did, I assure you.
#3 Lucifer – (2015-) – 3 seasons
I’m not going to lie about this: I’ve only seen the first half of season one of this show. But my gut already tells me I will only love this more and more. And I honestly never see anyone talk about this so I will. Extremely hot British Lucifer (Tom Ellis) takes up residence in Los Angeles and starts helping the local police department with solving crimes. But he is plagued by an Angel that desperately wants to take him back where he belongs. That sounds creepy, but this show is actually more funny. One Brit amongst a bunch of Americans, gotta love it.
#2 Black Sails – (2014-) – 4 seasons
This show. THIS SHOW. IS EVERYTHING. The only thing I want to say is: character development. I have rarely seen a show that handles it as well as Black Sails does and it works brilliantly in combination with the whole pirate theme. The notorious Captain Flint (played by Toby Stephens who is Maggie Smith’s son) is the main character in this show, and we follow his mission to protect the city of Nassau. But Flint is not the only one fighting for it. Slowly, his world starts to crumble as others rise to the top (or sink to the bottom…). Go watch it, you’ll thank me.
#1 Nikita – (2010-2013) – 4 seasons
My ALL-TIME-FAVOURITE show and sadly so vastly underrated. I can’t even begin to explain why I love this so much so you’re just going to have to take my word for it. It makes me sad that not more people watch this show because girl assassins kicking everyone’s ass. This was actually the first show ever I decided to watch. That was about 5 years ago and I don’t think I have ever been more excited about a show then I was about Nikita (okay, maybe Game of Thrones). So my girl Nikita is an assassin, trained by a corrupt secret unit of the government called Division. But she has decided to escape and bring them down instead of kill for them, this with help of a secret agent on the inside. Love, murder, betrayal, friendship, kick ass fighting scenes… this show legit has everything. Go add this to your watchlist as fast as you can.
Have you seen any of these shows? Do you agree with my choices? WILL YOU TAKE THESE RECOMMENDATIONS AND WATCH THEM? Let me know in the comments below and we can fangirl/-boy about it together!
